Filmliteratur 1919

Jeanpaul Goergen has embarked on a research project that plans to unearth all the writings about film and film culture in 1919, the first year of the Weimar Republic. He has found more than 60 books and brochures, all published in 1919, about different aspects of film as a cultural and social institution. He claims that such an all-encompassing archival approach is a corrective to the very small number of known writings about film and its status and function in 1919. He argues that not only unknown films should be rediscovered but also unknown writing about cinema. His research appeared in Filmportal under the title "Filmzauber und Kinounwesen: Filmliteratur 1919" – Part 1 and Part 2. The project includes a comprehensive bibliography of film-related books and articles from 1919.
